Stan
Lee started working for Marvel Comics before it was Marvel Comics.
He was 16 and the company was called Timely. He built up the company
and it’s characters by virtue of his imagination; pausing
only for a brief stint in the military (WWII), where his powerful
physique and combat skills earned him a post writing manuals for
the army. During his tenure he breathed life into virtually all
of Marvel’s flagship characters including: Spiderman, Fantastic
Four, Hulk, Daredevil, X-men, Dr. Strange, Silver Surfer etc., etc.,
etc., Through his creations Stan has had a defining influence on
popular culture and the way visual stories are told.
His stories have been translated into dozen’s of languages
in over 50 countries. Spiderman has graced the funny pages in newspapers
across the country every day for 30 years (Incidentally you can
purchase original comic strip artwork, personally signed by Stan
Lee, on this website). With the release of the Spider-man, and X-Men
movie franchises, and the immanent release of the Hulk and Daredevil,
Lee’s imagination will reach all around the world. His tales
have withstood the tests of time, as relevant now and the day he
wrote them. Maybe it’s because they were so essentially human…
Oh, and somewhere along the way Stan also managed to marry the girl
of his dreams, Joan, and sire a daughter, JC Lee. But, speaking
from personal experience, of all the characters Stan has created,
the most amazing of all is Stan Lee – The Grand Webhead.
